MICHAEL S. MILLER
It started with a set of Poseidon Adventure dolls, an obsession with the movie and a dead on Jack Albertson impersonation. Because of these random joys, Michael S. Miller met David Cerda and was cast in Handbags first production – Poseidon! An Upside Down Musical. A childhood spent playing Poseidon Adventure on the monkey bars and under the dining room table was not a waste of time, despite what his mother preached. Michael’s thrilled to have been an ensemble member with Handbag from the beginning. He grew up in Chicago where he studied theater and film at Columbia College and graduated with a B.F.A. in art. He’s helped promote all of Handbag’s shows to date by designing and art directing their promotional materials. He’s also been able to get creative with props, build and tear down sets and just get his hands dirty wherever it’s needed, except for cleaning toilets. He’s appeared around Chicago in productions of Your a Good Man Charlie Brown, Mousetrap, The Scooty & JoJo Show’s hysterical parody – Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN as Dr. Loomis and Mollywood (a musical mash up of John Hughs/Molly Ringwald films). Favorite Handbag roles include Richard Nixon in Judy’s Scary Little Christmas; Rod Serling in Twilight Gallery, Manny in Poseidon! An Upside Down Musical and just getting to play a lot in Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes.
